KUKOON LIVING

We use the very best interior designers to create modern, smart, comfortable and easily accessible homes designed in partnership with our tenants

OUR HOMES

We are providing homes for life for individuals. Key to our designs is that all houses feel like homes as opposed to a care homes or a house for a disabled person. We use the very best interior designers to create modern, smart, comfortable and easily accessible homes designed in partnership with our tenants.

We choose locations in the heart of communities that offer excellent travel links, is close to local amenities and near employment and volunteering opportunities. All homes are future proofed and fitted with a standard assistive technology build. We understand that the care and support needs of an individual may change, and any adaptations are made with this in mind.

INSPIRED BUILDS

Kukoon homes are fitted with fast-broadband (4G is our current standard). This allows for assistive technology to be easily integrated into homes. As each build is nearing completion and tenant identified we will work closely with Health and Social Care Partnership staff to assess each individual.

Working in partnership we will identify any assistive technology that can be incorporated in the end stage of the build to increase the independence of the tenant.

Each build is designed to take additional pieces of equipment. For example, strengthened ceilings to allow for hoists, wheelchair accessible homes with additional storage space for wheelchairs and other equipment. Bathrooms are designed to take tenants from bedroom to bathroom. Homes are designed so water (and other utilities) can be controlled from outside the home.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Assistive technology is designed primarily to give each tenant more independence. It also has the benefit of a less intrusive and dignified life for tenants. The following bespoke installations can be integrated within our homes:

Environmental controls:

  • Automation of door and windows.
  • Access control – both main door and internal doors.
  • Television and other source device control.
  • All devices are managed by a central control. This meets the needs of the individual tenant. It can be controlled by switches, touch screen, eye gaze or voice activated.

Sensors:

  • Door and window.
  • Epilepsy – wrist worn sensors, bed sensors, video monitors.
  • Bed sensors detect breathing and heart rate.
  • Medication dispenser sensor.
  • Kitchen appliances – fridge/freezer, oven, hob and water.
  • Motion.
  • The sensors can be set to report to the tenant’s supported living provider or carer.
  • Telecare Peripherals: With the aid of peripherals, it becomes easy for each tenant to take their own Blood Pressure, Weight, Blood, Glucose, Temperature and Peakflow.

SMART TV:

Our Smart TV is key to the provision of telecare. It is a central hub which combines telehealth, health management, activity monitoring and social engagement. We encourage tenants to connect with their neighbours and build natural supports. Tenants can take readings, this can populate a form on the screen which in turn can be forwarded (daily or weekly) to their GP or support provider. Tenants can also use their SMART TV to keep in touch with professionals, friends and family through SKYPE. SKYPE can also be used by care providers for medication prompts, etc. This is less intrusive for tenants.
